Singapore Police Detain Malaysian For Murder

SINGAPORE, June 22 (Bernama) — Singapore police have detained a Malaysian man to facilitate investigations into the murder of an elderly permanent resident at a flat here yesterday.

Abdul Khalid Othman, 61, was found dead inside a flat at Ang Mo Kio Avenue about 6.30pm. He was clad only in undergarments.

This morning, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department tracked down the 26-year-old suspect, from Sabah, to a hotel in the vicinity of Geylang.

Police said that the suspect had no fixed residence in the republic.

CID director Senior Assistant Commissioner Ng Boon Gay commended the officers for their swift action which led to the arrest of the suspect within 16 hours of the killing.
